Installing a Husky 5th Wheel Hitch in a 2017 Ram 2500 w/o OEM Prep Package
Question:
I have a 17 ram 2500 and just bought a used 5th wheel hitch “husky 07054” and included above bed rails. Is this compatible with my truck. If it is compatible what hardware kit do I use.

The Husky 07054 hitch will attach to industry standard rails, which is likely what was included. The hitch will fit in your 2017 Ram 2500 after you install industry standard rails in your truck bed. The base rails for a 5th wheel hitch are going to be vehicle specific, unless that hitch came out of a 2017 Ram 2500 you are going to be better off buying and installing base rails that are confirmed to fit your truck. The Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50054-58 are confirmed to fit your 2017 Ram 2500 and will provide you with the industry standard rails needed to use your hitch.
If you have a standard/short bed (6-1/2' bed) you may need to use a hitch with a slider like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051. This hitch would mount to the same rails mentioned above. The easiest way to know if you need a sliding hitch is to measure your clearance. A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab minus C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half) will equal your clearance (A-C=clearance). You will need at least 4" of clearance to not need a sliding hitch.
To make hooking up your 5th wheels wiring easier you can use the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Plug # 50-97-410. This will move your 7-way connector up into the bed of your truck for easier hook up, while retaining use of your 7-way at the rear of your truck.
