Prepping a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Short Bed To Transport 5TH Wheel and Gooseneck RV Campers
Question:
I have read several questions on your site regarding slider hitches. My Silverado has a six and a half foot bed. I know I need a slider hitch but saw that you recommend a pivoting pin box. If I am pulling different style trailers this doesnt seem feasible. What would you recommend in this case. Also, is there an adapter to use should I need to pull a trailer with a gooseneck style hitch

I recommend using a Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R24 Slider # C16566 for transporting 5th wheel RVs with your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. To install this hitch in your bed you will need the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16411-204. The installation kit includes the industry standard 5th wheel rails and custom fit under bed brackets that will mount to your frame without needing to drill holes. As you will be using this hitch for transporting 5th wheel RVs the higher rated hitch will ensure lasting durability and prevent you from attempting to haul a camper that may be rated higher than a lower hitch can tow.
A pivoting pin box is a great option for pulling the same trailer but since you are going to transporting multiple RVs trailers it is definitely not a route that will work.
If you should have to tow a gooseneck type trailer you can remove the 5th wheel hitch and use the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # 16055 that is designed to mount to your 5th wheel rails. This ball is mounted with a 3" offset to gain you some additional turning clearance with your short bed truck.
You will also want to install a Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157 so that you will be able to plug in the 7-way connector inside your truck bed. This will protect your bumper 7-way from becoming damaged due to the cord becoming stretched while maneuvering the trailer.
