I would be happy to help you. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C23FR. This is a custom fit hitch receiver that bolts directly onto your 2022 Ford Escape, with included hardware, and requires no welding. It has a maximum gross trailer weight of 3,500 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 525 lbs. You will really like the clean low profile look of the installation of this hitch receiver. I have attached a picture to show you what the finished product will look like. I have also attached an installation video so you can follow along with the process.
You are going to need a wiring harness as well to control your trailer's lighting functions. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # TE54FR. This plug in wiring harness connects in line behind your Escape's rear tail lights. This harness connects without cutting or splicing. It will allow you to control your trailer's brake, running, and turn signals.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" Ball, a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop, and is rated for up to 7,500 lbs. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
