How To Replace The Hub On An Old Trailer.
Question:
Hi, I found this question in the Q/A list... I have a trailer I purchased used and need to replace the bearings. Im finding a L68149 for the inner bearing and a L44643 as the outer. Would this be correct or possibly someone replaced with the wrong outer bearing? Would this be a #3500 axle? asked by: Matt L You indicated that you dont sell kits for this combination. It turns out I have a trailer with the same bearing combination on the axles. I wound up ordering individual bearings and seals to do the job. My question is - what sort of spindle is this? I cant find that combination listed in any spindle specification list. This trailer doesnt look to be that old. Im guessing its 20-30 years old or so, but hard to tell. I dont mind the issue with not being able to find a kit, but my main concern is that if I have a breakdown on the road and need a hub, Ill be out of luck.

You are correct, we do not sell or make kits for that assembly because that hub assembly is not made anymore and we can not get you one.
However if you want to remove the worry after a breakdown you could convert to the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # A20RS545. Or you can replace the entire axle and hub/drum assembly.
If you want to replace the axles I can definitely help you find the right parts to get you hauling safely again, just measure your axle from hub face to hub face and from spring center to spring center. I will attach a photo to show the locations to measure. Some of the more common lengths are 72 or 60 inches from hub to hub. And 48 or 58 inches from spring center to spring center.
