Attaching Weight Distribution Brackets To The Frame Of A V-Nose Trailer
Question:
I have an equilzer hitch system that was previous installed on a travel trailer of mine. Travel trailer was totaled by insurance for hail damage, I recovered the entire hitch system before turning over to insurance. I have a covered box trailer 7 x 14 v nose, that I want to install the hitch system on. The problem is: the v nose of the trailer is covering the access to the top of the v frame at the location where the fixed sway control brackets should be placed. I do not want to modify the v-nose of the box. Is there any other method I could use to attach the sway control brackets? I do not have access to the trailer today for pictures. It is stored 30 miles away.

V-Nose trailers do make weight distribution a lot more difficult. There is a way around this, but it will require going with a different system than what you currently have, unfortunately.
What you will need to do is go with a chain style system, like the Reese Strait-Line # RP66074, which will use your Equal-i-zer's shank. This will definitely cover your weight capacities and is nearly identical to those of the Equal-i-zer # EQ37121ET. However, with the Strait-Line having chains instead of brackets, it will then allow you to use the Chain Hangers for Reese # RP58305. This will be used in place of the snap up brackets that come with the system, but will require drilling to be installed. If the frame is steel, you are good to go. If it is aluminum, you will definitely need to contact the trailer manufacturer to make sure it is ok do go this route. If they say yes, you are good to go. If they say no, the only option will be to modify the end of the V-Nose to get your Equal-i-zer to work.
