What do You Recommend to Transport a 24 x 48 260 Pound Object on a Flat-Towed 2014 Grand Cherokee?

Need some help with finding the best products to solve my issue. 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 on a motorhome Id like to be able to have my dog x-pens travel in a rear storage unit outside of my motorhome It would make it easier to load and move some weight a little further back to offset weight on the tongue that I need to get rid of. Currently the x-pens are riding on the rear dinette with a ratchet strap around them and the ped table top. I am carrying 5 x-pens that are around 260 lbs. with dimensions of 24 x 48. I dont want to put anything on my bumper because we all know that will fall right off. I would like this to be as stable, secure and safe as possible. Ive seen a few products that might work but would prefer an experts opinion vs my macgyvering something together.

The only option we currently have that will give you the 24 x 48 inches of space you need as well as the safety, I recommend the GearSpace 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitch - Slide Out item # HGK819 (dark grey) or item # HGK826 (light grey). With the GearSpace 34, it has internal dimensions of 63" long x 28" wide x 40" tall. Also, the GearSpace 34 has been constructed to withstand the added torque and force when mounted on a hitch receiver on a flat-towed vehicle. Almost all of our cargo carriers do not have this ability (and none have the dimensions and weight capacity you need).

In addition to the GearSpace 34, you will need a wiring harness for using the tail light functions while mounted on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The parts you need are either the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C62VR (if your Jeep does not have a factory tow package) or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # 118384 (if you have a factory tow package).

If you need a hitch receiver on the Jeep, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver item # 75699. Apart from the 500-pound maximum tongue weight capacity (which will be enough for the 160 pound carrier and the 260 pounds of x-pens), will also allow you to use the cargo carrier without any bumper clearance issues. I went ahead and attached a video that walks you through the installation process of the hitch. For the hitch pin with this setup, you will need the Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin for 2" Trailer Hitches item # SHP2061.
