Adding a Trailer Brake Controller and 7-Way To a 2012 Ford Expedition With a 4-Way Flat Connector
Question:
I have a 2012 Ford Expedition that has the flat four plug. I want to be able to tow our RV trailer that has brake control. I don’t think I have the brake controller on my expedition. What all do I need to make it work.

First to determine exactly what parts you need you will need to see if your 4-way flat plug is a factory plug or if the 4-way was added on. The best way to determine this is to check under the dash for the trailer brake connector. The connector will be tucked up behind the OB2 port above the throttle pedal. I have linked an installation video below for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 that shows where this connector is on your 2012 Ford Expedition.
If you have the connector you will need the Brake Controller # 90195, Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3035-P, Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole # 37185, some additional 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 and the Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5.
If you do not have the factory connector you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 with the Brake Controller # 90195.
I have linked some installation videos below that we have from our shop that will help you through the entire installation process for either scenario.
