Yes, you will be able use the Reese 5th wheel hitch from his Ford F-250 with your 2016 Ram 1500.
If he has a 5th wheel slider hitch that fits in the Industry Standard Rails you would only need to add the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50142-58 to your Ram and then you will be able to drop the hitch into the rails on your truck.
If he does not have a sliding 5th wheel hitch you will not want to use his hitch. A sliding 5th wheel hitch like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR allows for you to move the hitch back in your bed which will give you increased maneuverability and allow you to make jackknife turns to position the 2012 Forest River Salem 24RLS.
In the event that his hitch uses the puck system mounts please send me an image of the hitch so I can determine if it can be adapted to fit the rails of your Ram.
Be sure to use a Lube Plate # RP83002 with the hitch as this will reduce noise and increase the life of the hitch.
