Wiring For a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller Installed on a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee W/Factory Tow
Question:
I have a 2009 Prodigy brake controller that was formerly in my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. I would like to use it in my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have the brake control harness that came with the Jeep, but the wiring colors are different on the Prodigy harness I want to splice my Jeep harness into. The Jeep harness colors are Green/black/grey with a red trace/white with a violet trace. The prodigy harness colors are D=blue, C=white,B=red, A=black. The Jeep harness functions are as follows Black is ground, white with violet trace is stop lamp and signal, Grey wire with red trace is 12 volt battery feed, Green is Electric brake feed wire. I am hopeful you can help me to splice these two harness together to get this controller to function in my Jeep? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The wiring colors for the 2009 Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller will be the same as the newer Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. The black wire is the 12 volt power supply, red wire brake switch input, white wire 12 volt ground and blue wire goes to the 7-way to send power to the trailer brakes.
So with the harness from your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited you will connect the following wires.
Jeep black to Tekonsha white
Jeep green to Tekonsha blue
Jeep white/violet tracer to Tekonsha red
Jeep grey/red tracer to Tekonsha black
You can also eliminate the need for splicing the wiring together by using a Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # TK93VR that has both the factory Jeep connector along with the Tekonsha plug so that the installation is plug-n-play.
