Spare Tire Mount Recommendation for Trailers with Limited Frame Space

Question:

I have an eight foot trailer that does not have enough room for a tounge mount for the spare. Is there any way that I can mount the spare to the exterior wall of door. Thanks

We do have a couple different spare tire mount options for you to check out. You could go with the Spare Tire Carrier for E-Track Systems, # RA-16HST, that you referenced, but you will also need an E-Track rail. For this I recommend the 4 ft Vertical E-Track, # E19146.

The E-track system was primarily designed to be installed inside of an enclosed trailer, but you could install it on the outside of the trailer if you would like. I do not recommend installing it on the side of the trailer because the spare tire will hang out and could hit a car or truck passing by. The front of the trailer would be a better location.

If you have room available, you could install a few of the horizontal E-Tracks, # E19148, and that would give you the ability to mount your spare tire and you could add a few tie-down rings like part # E59143 to secure any loads in your trailer.

If you have a trailer hitch on your trailer, you could use a hitch mounted spare tire carrier like the Curt Hitch Spare Tire Carrier, # C31006. Depending on the type of trailer you have, you may be able to add a trailer hitch using the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch, # 13703. This hitch works with C-Channel, I-Beam and Box style frames. This is a universal style hitch, so it is important that you check your frame before purchasing. The frame should extend the length of the trailer.
