Installing The Brake Buddy Stealth Brake Controller In Your Motorhome

Question:

Have 2020 JAYCO Greyhawk Ford E-450 chassis with tow package, looking to install Stealth supplemental brake system in 2020 Chevy Colorado as toad. Electrical wiring not my strong suit, unfortunately I’m 1350 miles away from my RV at the moment. Does etrailer have a wiring harness adapter for the supplied brake controller of the Stealth to plug into the Greyhawk’s E-450’s tow package wiring?

There is not currently an adapter available so you will have to splice some wires together to install the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39530 in your 2020 Jayco Greyhawk. The brake controller of this system has 4 wires:

Blue Wire: Brake wire - this will run to the 7-way connector and tell the brakes to activate.

White Wire: Ground Wire - Splice this wire into the existing wire going to negative post on the motorhome battery. Grounding to any other location may cause intermittent controller operation or failure.

Black Wire: Splice this wire into the existing wire going to 20 amp circuit breaker or in-line fuse to the positive terminal on the motorhome’s battery.

Red Wire: Splice this wire into the existing wire going to the cold side of the motorhome’s stop lamp switch located by the brake pedal. Find the wire by using a circuit tester like the # PTW2992 and probing for the wire that powers the motorhomes stop lamps when the brake pedal is pressed.

Since your motorhome is newer it most likely will have the needed wires labeled and bundled together with some butt-connectors to allow you to easily connect the brake controller wires and crimp the connectors. If you don't have a tool to strip the wire casings and crimp the butt connectors then you can use the Hopkins Deluxe Trailer Wiring Installation Kit # HM51020 which is a great starter kit for wiring and will have everything you need for this installation.

In the attached installation video at the 20 minute mark David will go over this as well.
