In order to add a 7-Way trailer connector to a 2012 Subaru Outback Wagon you will first need to install a 4-Way. If the vehicle already has a 4-Way you can skip to the next step. For a 4-Way you can use # 118467. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you. The factory 4-Way, if you have one, or the 118467, will have a converter. This takes the separate turn signal and brake lights from the vehicle and combines them on the output side for the trailer.
The next step is to install a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This will provide the 7-Way and the wiring and accessories needed to complete the installation. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation.
If you will be towing a trailer with electric brakes then I recommend a brake controller, # 90885. This controller is easy to use, easy to set up, and its a reliable product.
