The Thule Gateway Pro trunk mount bike rack # TH78VR will fit your 2002 Nissan Xterra. The rack uses 6 straps to secure to the back of the vehicle. The initial set up will take the longest but after that it should only take a few minutes to get the rack on and probably half that time to remove it.

But for the fastest and easiest rack to install or remove I recommend the Raceway 3, # TH9002PRO. I own this rack myself and it is the easiest rack I have used to install or remove. This is because it uses 4 retractable cables instead of 6 straps to secure to the vehicle. It also features an integrated cable lock in the last bike position and the ability to lock the cables on one side to deter theft.

Thule does recommend removing the rack when not in use. Also, when the rack is installed you cannot use a rear windshield wiper. You will also want to make sure the rack and the vehicle are clean where they come into contact with each other.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.
