Mounting Curt C17501 Spring Bar Brackets On A Trailer Tongue With A Battery Box
Question:
I am considering the purchase of a Curt C17501 weight distributing hitch from you. My tow vehicle is a 2001 F350 with dual rear wheels. The receiver is a Curt 15410. I have a Featherlite 4926 22 foot car hauler with 7K axles on order. The trailer will have an aluminum battery box mounted on the tongue frame exterior to and just in front of the trailer body nose. My question is can the spring bar brackets be mounted to the trailer tongue frame with the battery box in place? If not can the battery box be modified to allow installation of the spring bar brackets? Thank you for your help.

Installing the brackets for the Curt # C17501 weight distribution system with the battery box on the front of your Featherlite 4926 will depend on where and how it is mounted.
The brackets for the spring bars will need to be mounted 30 to 31 inches back from the center of your coupler, so if this is where the battery box is, you will need to either see about moving said box, or modify it. However, these brackets really don't take up a whole lot of space and you may not need to do either.
With that being said, if you do need to make modifications, I cannot really say what all will be needed. But it will most likely require some custom brackets for it to fit properly.
As a potential alternate to all of this though, is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET. This is rated slightly lower at 1,000 pound (min) and 1,400 pounds (max), but can have the frame brackets mounted 27" to 32" back from the center of the coupler and may solve all the problems. Again, you will need to determine where the battery box is and if the brackets will interfere, but it could be a better option.
