Recommended Roof Rack For 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ Flush Rails For Rooftop Tent

Question:

Hi. I’m looking into buying the Roofnest Falcon Pro. I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude with flush rails. Right now my crossbars say that it can hold 165 lbs but the rooftop tent weights 180 lbs. I’ve gotten my racks from etrailer before so I trust you guys. Can you recommend which bars I should be installing for this kind of tent? Thanks!

Okay, so there is definitely a roof rack that will work for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a rooftop tent, but not a 180 lb tent as there isn't a roof rack with that capacity. So I went ahead and spoke with Roofnest about it, and they essentially said that most people just go ahead and use the tent anyway.

That said, for safety, I absolutely recommend going with a different rooftop tent, one that falls within the 165 lb capacity of a roof rack. That can be either of the other Roofnest Falcon models or one like the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent # Y07436.

But no matter what tent you go with, we want you to be safe, and also want your roof rack to be something that lasts and you get a lot of use out of, and overloading it would jeopardize that. Having said all of that, the best roof rack for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with flush rails to carry a rooftop tent is from Thule:

- Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Silver # TH711400 or Black # TH711420
- Thule Feet # TH49SC
- Thule Fit Kit # TH53ZE
- (Optional) Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders # TH450400

This rack has the max 165 lb capacity, and utilizes 53 inch long crossbars which are among the longest for your Grand Cherokee to give you the most room possible to mount your tent. The WingBar Evo crossbars are also supremely quiet because of their WindDiffuser strips on the top of the bars that direct air flow over the crossbars to minimize wind noise.

They are also highly durable, being constructed from aluminum so they'll never rust, and even come with a lifetime warranty to ensure you never have to worry about the bars wearing out over time (so long as you stay within their load capacity, of course).
