Your 2006 Ford Escape will have an electronic odometer which will not be able to record the miles traveled with the ignition in the off or accessory position.

If you haven't already gotten a tow bar, base plate, braking system, tow bar wiring, and safety cables to flat tow your 2006 Ford Escape then I have the following recommendations for you:

Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. This tow bar features a large hookup radius and non-binding design which makes connecting/disconnecting from your base plate on any terrain a breeze. Roadmaster recently stopped including the crossbar assembly with their tow bars so you will also need to purchase the # 910021-00 since there are only crossbar-style base plates for your vehicle instead of the direct-connect style.

Base Plate: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 4406-1 if you have a hybrid or # 4401-1 if you don't have a hybrid.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit allows you to use your Ford Escape's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. It also includes a 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil electrical cord.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39524. This system offers intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking using the remote from the convenience of your RV. The included 15-Amp charge line kit will charge your towed car's battery while you tow so you won't have to worry about dealing with a dead battery when you arrive at your destination.

Note: The Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 is require to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn. The color of your brake light switch is light green.

Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent them from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
