Replacement Leaf Springs For a 3,500LB Venture Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a Venture boat trailer, single axle I use it to haul a 2400lb boat. The numbers on the plate have long since faded, but from the manufacturers web site, the highest rating for that group of trailers is 3500lbs. I come up with the SP-111275 replacement spring by looking at Ventures replacement parts visually it matches whats on the trailer now. I am surprised that they used 6000lb springs for a 3500lb load. Even counting the trailer at 800lbs, isn't that overkill? Can I get by with a 4 leaf spring and get a softer ride? I think the boat and trailer are roughly 3000lbs.

Yes, a 6,000lb trailer axle spring like the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e34SR that you found would be to stiff for your Venture boat trailer.

Since there are several different manufacturers of leaf springs for all different purposes it is best to match your specific weight rating that you need for your trailer and find the correct length spring.

The spring you found has an eye center to eye center length of 25-1/4" long. We have a 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e54SR that is 1/8" shorter at 25-1/8" from eye center to eye center. You will want to ensure that this matches what you have on your trailer along with the other measurements for this particular spring to ensure you do not alter you ground clearance on your trailer as that may cause the tires to rub on the fenders or for the boat to be harder to launch and retrieve if the trailer sits higher.

If you find that your current leaf springs have different measurements please let me know what measurements you have so I can help identify the correct spring for your Venture boat trailer.
