Batteries Not Getting Charged on My 2015 Oliver Legacy Elite II From My 2014 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I own an 2015 Oliver Legacy Elite II. It came with a single, standard, 12 volt deep cell battery. When that battery gave out, I replaced it with two Trojan T-165 6 volt batteries. My TV is a 2014 Toyota Tundra which produces 13.6 volts going to the trailer. Im not sure, but I believe Oliver used a Progressive model charger/distribution panel in the trailer. Question: do I need to replace the charging module, because of the larger 6 volt batteries?? Ive not gotten model #s etc. yet. Thought Id ask you first. It doesnt seem that the TV is charging the batteries.

From what you described it does not sound like your problem is caused by the Progressive Dynamics Converter/Charger, so you will not have to replace it. I do have an option to better charge the 6V batteries on your RV with your 2014 Toyota Tundra, but I suggest checking the wiring on your 6V to make sure they are wired correctly. The batteries should be wired in series for your situation. I have attached a picture to illustrate how the wiring should be.
Your Tundra is probably not charging the 2 6V batteries, possibly because they are dead. If they are dead, they will not be able to be charged through your 7-Way. You can use a battery charger like the NOCO Genius Smart Battery Charger - AC to DC - 6V/12V - 10 Amp # 329-GENIUS10 to charge the batteries.
The option I have to charge your batteries is the Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator with Wiring Kit - 12 Volt - 100 Amp # 331-SBI12KIT. The Redarc Battery Isolator will transfer power from your start battery to your auxiliary batteries without draining your start battery. As long as your vehicle is on and the alternator is supplying power to the start battery, the Smart Start will transfer some of that power to your auxiliary battery. When your vehicle is shut off, the isolator will separate its connection and stop pulling power. This ensures that your start battery is protected so that no matter how weak your auxiliary battery becomes, your start battery won't be left flat. As a result, you can venture out without the fear of running into a dead battery.
The Redarc # 331-SBI12KIT will provide up to 100 amps, if you need more that that let me know and we can add more.
