Recommended 7-Way and Brake Controller for a 2018 Acura MDX
Question:
I am buying a 2018 acura mdx and they are installing the acura hitch/coolers to give it max tow capacity. However, the hitch they are installing is a 5 pin and my trailer is a 7 pin. What connectors do I need? Also, can you recommend an easy to install/wont clutter the dash proportional brake controller?

Expert Reply:
In order to install a 7-way trailer connector and subsequent brake controller on a 2018 Acura MDX I recommend starting with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118628 which is plug and play. Then you can adapt this to a 7-way using the 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way adapter part # ETBC7L. This kit is designed to be used with a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller part # C51180. The wireless brake controller will be best as it does not require splicing and it doesn't require drilling into the dash taking up leg room. It operates proportionally.
I don't recommend going with a 5-way as it contains extra circuits you will not need and is rather uncommon for most trailers. The above adapter and controller could still however be used with the 5-way if you wanted.
