Can You Test the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness With a Volt Meter

Question:

I installed a Curt trailer wiring part #56209 custom wiring harness on my 2015 Ram Promaster 1500. The installation is very clean. I used solder sleeve splices heat shrink on the +12v wire at the fuse holder and surface mounted box and was able to hide to wire in the interior. The surface mounted box fits inside the drivers side rear lens cover. The ground was achieved by drilling into the sheet metal of the van under the lens cover. Now my question is can I test the output at the 4 pin flat plug or do I need a test lamp. I am not measuring any voltage changes with my voltmeter

Yes, you can use a volt meter to test a trailer wiring harness like the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness. You'd simply be looking for around 12 volts on the circuit you have activated. The other ways we recommend testing are with a more basic test light like part # PTW2993 or plug in tester like part # F4CT. The harness don't read resistance on the circuit or anything so as long as you have power to the module box and the signal is activated in the vehicle then you will see power at the connector.

If you're having issues getting a signal, try testing the wires going into the module and leaving so you can better trace where the problem is coming from. I'd also make sure you have all the correct settings applied with the volt meter.
