Is A Battery Charge Line Kit Required When Flat Towing A 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Please advice if I need to install a battery charger when the flat towing system installation. I was told by someone that its better to be installed to keep car battery longer. Is it true? What is your, as expert, recommendation? If it is, what is part# and name that I can order?

Yes, I highly recommend using a battery charge line kit while flat towing your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Depending on the braking system you use you'll be pulling power directly from the vehicle battery and wouldn't want to run the risk of it depleting the battery while you're towing and then have the breaking system turn off or get to your destination and unhook your Jeep only to find the battery is too low to start.
If you aren't using a Brake Buddy System like the # HM39524 or # HM39530 that come with a battery charge line kit included you can use the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25. This kit allows up to 15 amps from your RV's battery to be used to maintain the charge of your towed car's battery and will connect to the 6-way or 7-way plug on your vehicle. Note this will require Roadmaster's motor home battery line # RM-156-75, sold separately, if no charge line is present in your RV.
I've attached videos of each of these products to help you with installation as well.
If you haven't yet purchased all of the other flat towing equipment required I have the following recommendations for you:
Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. This tow bar features a non-binding design and large hookup radius that makes connecting and disconnecting from your base plates on any terrain a breeze.
Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit will allow you to use your Jeep Grand Cherokee's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV.
Note: If your Jeep has ParkSense proximity sensors you will need # RM47ZR instead.
Base Plate: The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521440-5 you were already looking at are a great choice. The direct-connect attachment points make hooking up and disconnecting super easy and the ability to remove the arms when not in use will provide a clean look and save your shins when walking around the front of your Jeep. Note: This base plate will not fit SRT-8 and Trackhawk models. If you have either of those models let me know and I can find the correct fit for you.
Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent them from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level between your RV and Jeep. This will require some measuring so I've attached our help guide article to assist you in determining if an adapter is needed and which is the correct fit.
