Adapter Solution to Tow Trailer with 5-Way Round with Tow Vehicle with 4-Way
Question:
Hello, I am trying to convert a 5pin roundtrailer to 4pin flat Chevy HHR. The 5th wire is a Red Brake Lights how do I connect that to a Chevy HHR 4pin harness?

Expert Reply:
The trailer you have has the turn signals separated from the stoplights which is different from the trailer wiring of your HHR which has those two circuits combined. So what that means is you need to start with a turn signal converter like part # 118158 which will perform that function. So what I would do at this point is remove the 5-way round of your trailer and install a 4-way like pat # HM48110 with the converter on the trailer side so that you have the ability to easily connect tow vehicles to the trailer.
