There are a myriad of reasons why your trailer lights would be on while your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe's lights are off, and generally the issue is on the trailer side. So the first thing to do is take a look at your trailer's 4-way and check it for corrosion. A build-up of corrosion can cause numerous issues with the lighting signals, so if it is corroded then you will need to replace your trailer 4-way with the Hopkins 4-Pole Flat Connector # HM38134.
Also, to ensure there is no corrosion on either your trailer or Hyundai connectors, always be sure to use Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755.
If the connector is fine you want to check the trailer's wiring to ensure the grounds are good. It is important they are attached to bare metal surfaces and free of any paint, dirt or corrosion. Then take a look at your trailer's wiring to inspect it for any broken, nicked or otherwise damaged wires.
