Can You Tow with Stealth Hitch for a 2018 Volvo XC60

Question:

Two questions: 1. I had a body shop install the hitch and stressed that they needed to use the supplied nuts. I believe that they did. Not sure I can tell. However if they used the original nuts will I have a problem? 2. The manager of the same shop asked me if I was thinking of towing a trailer with the hitch. I told him not with the bike hitch receiver, but possibly a small trailer after I install the ball receiver setup and the wiring. He said he’d be surprised if this type of hitch setup could pull a trailer. Are there any XC40 owners that have pulled a trailer, and if so how did it work?

There are two different Stealth Hitches for a 2018 Volvo XC60, the Rack Receiver part # SH87FR and Towing Receiver part # SH87FRT. The former is for hitch accessories and the latter is towing although it does come with the rack receiver for hitch accessories as well. If you have the rack receiver receiver and want to tow later down the road you can simply purchase the Towing Kit w/ Ball Mount and Trailer Wiring part # SH36FR.

The Towing Receiver has a listed capacity of 6,000 lbs per Stealth Hicthes but if the vehicle is rated lower that's the rating you'll need to abide by. There are countless trailer hitches that attach in the same way as the above that are rated for towing, some even factory.

I can't comment on any installation practices outside of the steps listed in the owner's manual. If they say to use the supplied hardware then that is what I must recommend.
