Can a P2 Trailer Brake Controller from a 1998 Ford F-150 Be Used in a Rental 2012 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a Prodigy P2 brake controller I bought at etrailer a couple years ago for my 98 F150. I will be taking a road trip with a rental F150 which is bound to be fairly new and was wondering if the under dash wiring harness is different or if I can just use my current controller on the rental?

The 1998 Ford F-150 and 2012 F-150 do not use the same wiring harness (a 2012 would use # 22292). Because you would have to put holes in the dash of the truck to mount the controller, it is probably not something the rental place will let you do. But if they allow you to or can find a factory screw to mount the controller mounting bracket to then it could work.
A 2nd option is to use a time delay brake controller because they do not have to be mounted any certain way and you can just set the controller down within reach of the driver and not put any holes in the truck. You can use Curt controller # C74VV with connector # C51436
