Information Needed to Find Correct Replacement Hub for Boat Trailer

Question:

Reading advice on how to know what to buy, would be great if my bearings were intact, which they are not. I have the old hub, and parts of the old bearings. It is a 5 stud wheel bearing. I suspect it is a 1 inch trailer spindle on the axle, but will measure to be sure. It is not tapered.....14 inch tire. Suggestions?

From what you describe, you might very well use the # 8-258-5UC1 hub you referenced, but we will need to be absolutely sure. In order to suggest the correct hub, we will need some additional information from you.

- Bolt pattern of your existing hubs (see FAQ article to determine your bolt circle dimension)
- Since your bearing reference numbers are unobtainable, you will need to take some accurate measurements from your spindle using a dial or digital caliper at the inner bearing surface, outer bearing surface and the surface that the grease seal rides on. Using a ruler or tape measure will not provide enough accuracy. I have provided a diagram that shows the exact locations of the spindle that will need to be measured.
- Most 5 lug wheels use 1/2 inch diameter wheel studs, let me know if yours are different.
- Axle capacity of your trailer

With the above information, I can accurately recommend the correct replacement hub for your boat trailer.
