Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller Locking Up Brakes No Matter The Setting
Question:
I have had this unit for 11 years, on my travel trailer, with no problems. I recently borrowed my neighbors utility trailer to haul mulch. Whenever I applied the brakes the trailer brakes would lock up. It did not matter where the thumb wheel was. I sold my travel trailer last year so I cannot use it for testing purposes. I do have access to my neighbors utility trailer. What is the best way to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would be happy to help.
Since the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 you have installed is always locking up the brakes of your neighbors utility trailer I would first check what setting you have it set at via leveling the sensor.
With the trailer connected to your vehicle you will want to press the brake pedal and hold, you will see a dim orange, bright orange, or dim red setting.
Dim orange is the standard setting so you will need to adjust the leveling wheel located on the left side of the controller until you get that color.
Next just verify that the power knob located on the right side of the controller is rotated counter clock wise thus lowering the braking power.
If everything checks out there then I would check that the brakes on your neighbors trailer are adjusted correctly. You can do this by referencing the included help article.
Let me know what you find and I we can go into more in-depth troubleshooting if needed.
