By far, the easiest installation of any brake controller on your 2021 Ford Explorer is the Curt Echo # C51180. The Curt Echo avoids complicated wiring and bulky control units that you would have to install with other brake controllers. With the Echo, you can control your settings with your smart device.

For the Curt Echo, if your vehicle doesn't already have a 7-way, you first need to install a 4-way wiring harness like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118599. After you have the T-One harness installed (or if your 2021 Ford Explorer already has a factory 4-way harness), you will need to install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. The 7-way harness will allow you to have braking functions for your trailer. I went ahead and linked installation videos of both of these wiring harnesses to this answer.
