For a tow vehicle that has a 7-way blade-style trailer connector like # A10-7072VP and a trailer that has a 6-way connector such as # PK11604, you could absolutely use an adapter like the # 47549 you'd looked at.

This is a universal adapter, which is handy because there are two accepted ways to wire a 6-way trailer connector. One way uses the center pin as the 12-v trailer accessory power feed, the other uses center pin as the brake output. The adapter has the center pin wired as the 12-v feed, but can easily be swapped with the brake output pin if that's the way the 6-way on your trailer is wired.

Rather than using an adapter which you might accidently leave sitting on your bumper and lose when you drive off (ask me know I know that), a better long-term solution would be to remove the existing 6-way connector on the trailer and replace it with a 7-way. If this is the only vehicle that will tow that trailer, this is the route I'd recommend taking. We offer a combination 7-way trailer-end connector and junction box as part # 277-000141 that works great.

The junction box provides a wiring block to make your wiring connections that keeps them protected from the elements for a tidy, professional installation.

I've linked to a demonstration video for the adapter, as well as to an install video for the trailer connector/junction box.
