Kwikee Steps Grinding When Going In and Out On a 2019 Tiffin Open Road Allegro Motorhome

Question:

I own a 2019 Tiffin Allegro Open Road motorhome. My step started to make a very loud grinding noise when they open and close. Now they will not close all the way up. I removed the motor and opened the plate that exposes the gear in side. That was so rusty and dirty, but the motor still ran. I have no idea if I need the motor replaced or what. I will attach a few pics to show you. Let me know what I need. Thanks

As you have been hearing a grinding noise on the Kwikee steps on your 2019 Tiffan Open Road Allegro, I would check the Gear Box and A Linkage # LC379160. If you remove the gear box you will be able to actuate the arm and determine if you feel any resistance that may be causing the grinding noise you are hearing. If large parts of the gear or housing are damaged you should hear them inside the case. If you find either of these wrong you will want to replace your gear box.

With the Step Motor # LC379147 removed you can check the shaft for excessive play or damage. If you find that there is excessive play it will need replaced.

Finally be sure to check the steps themselves for any damage that may have caused them to damage either the gear box or motor. You want to ensure that the steps move freely in and out without the motor and gear box attached.
