Best Flat Towing Setup For 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL

I just picked up a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL 4-door and am wanting to flat tow it behind my motorhome. I am new to flat towing and have no idea what I need. Could you help me out?

Flat towing a vehicle requires a few components with some being specific to your exact vehicle. You will need a base plate kit, a tow bar compatible with that base plate kit, safety cables, wiring to allow your motorhome to power the lights on your Jeep, and a supplemental braking system.

Starting with the base plate kit I recommend going with the Roadmaster Direct Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521453-5 as it is custom made to fit your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL as long as you still have the factory steel or plastic bumper. This kit has removeable arms so once you are done flat towing you can remove the arms and the base plate kit will blend in pretty well to the front of your Jeep and you will not take away from its looks.

For a compatible tow bar I recommend going with the Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain # RM-522 which has a 6000lb capacity that is perfect for your Jeep, and the non-binding arms allow you to quickly and easily unhook the tow bar from your Jeep even if you are parked on rough, un-even terrain.

Moving on to the safety cables and wiring I recommend the RoadMaster Falcon 2 and Falcon All-Terrain Combo Towing Kit # RM-9243-1. This kit includes the needed safety cables, wiring with diodes to power your Jeep lights and protect them from back feed, the 6-way to 7-way cord to plug into the connector on your motorhome, and a 6-way connector. Along with all of this you also get locks to keep your tow bar secure to your base plate kit, and a storage case for the tow bar when it is not in use.

Next is a supplemental braking system which are now required in most states, but even in the areas they are not required they are a good idea as they allow the brakes on your Jeep to help when stopping instead of forcing your motorhome brakes to stop the extra weight of your Jeep. These systems give shorter stopping distances and reduce the wear and tear on your motorhome.

I recommend going with the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR as it is very easy to get installed in your Jeep, and since it gets completely removed when you are done flat towing it can be used in multiple vehicles if needed. You will also need to add a 12v outlet kit # RM-9332 to power the system in your Jeep.

Lastly you will likely need a high-low adapter to level your tow bar to your tow vehicle so I have included a link to a helpful article that goes over how to measure for the correct adapter, and a link to our selection of high-low adapters for you to look through.

It is always a good idea to check the recreational towing section of your owner's manual as it will go over any flat towing restrictions along with and special steps needed to make your Jeep ready to be flat towed.
