Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch and Extended Shank For Trailer With 1000 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Hi, I have a 2021 Ram 3500 with a 2 ½ inch hitch receiver. I have a truck camper that slightly overhangs the rear of the truck. Currently I have a hitch with a 5” space between the hitch pin and the adjustment holes. On tight turns the trailer is very close to the camper. I am looking to upgrade to a weight distribution hitch and gain a few more inches of clearance between the camper and trailer. The trailer is already set up for a trunnion or round bar weight distribution hitch so I would like to stay with that style. Can you recommend a shank and weight distribution hitch for a 6000lb trailer with 1000lb tongue weight and a 6 inch drop ? Thanks

For the system itself, I'd recommend the Reese trunnion bar weight distribution system, part # RP66131 which can handle tongue weights from 800-1500 lbs, which would accommodate your trailer's 1000 lb tongue weight perfectly.

For a shank, we do offer a couple of 2-1/2 inch shanks that are longer than the 5 inch one you currently have.

• The Equal-i-zer # EQ90-02-4900 offers 8 inches between the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of
the holes where the weight distribution head installs. The shank offers a 10 inch rise or a 6 inch drop.

• The Blue Ox # BLU26FR is 9 inches long, measured from the center hitch pin hole to center of
adjustment holes, and has a maximum rise of 10-1/2 or drop of 4-1/2 inches.

I've linked to product videos for the shanks I recommended above.
