My existing shank of couse is 2x2inch but measures only 8inch top to bottom. I need a 2 1/2inch with more of a . any suggestions? will the equalizer be compatible?

The best option here is to install a 2-1/2" shank to fit your receiver and also find one that has the necessary drop for your new truck. The Curt Weight Distribution Shank - 12" Long - 15-3/4" or 16-1/4" Drop - 1,500 lbs TW # C17125 would be a good option to look into. It is 12" long and offers up to 15-3/4" drop and it fits your 2-1/2" receiver.
