Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch Height For A 2016 Titan XD SL

Question:

Any recommendations for initial installation for the height of the hitch. Lowest/Highest/or in between. Trailer is 90 miles away and I hope it wouldn’t be necessary to adjust the height when picking up our new first fifth wheel. Thanks

When it comes to 5th wheels you'll need to measure the height from the ground to the floor of your 2016 Nissan Titan XD's bed and the height from the ground to the pin box king pin plate while the trailer is level. The difference between the two is the height you'll want you hitch at.

For example the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Nissan Titan XD Towing Prep Package # C16520-16026 has 13-17" height adjustment. If you measure a bed height of 40" and a king pin plate height of 55" then you would want to set your hitch height at 15".

You'll need to keep in mind that you need 6" of clearance between the nose of the camper and the top of your truck's bedrails.

I recommend calling the 5th wheel dealer and asking them for the height of the king pin plate so you can set the height of your hitch before driving over to pick it up.

Since your Nissan Titan XD has a 6.5' bed I recommend using a sliding fifth wheel to prevent the nose of your 5th wheel from coming into contact with the cab of your truck when making turns. The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550035 with the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Nissan Titan XD OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6200. This hitch will give you 14" of extra turning clearance and has an autoslide design to allow you to make tight turns without have to get out of your truck to unlock the slide feature of the hitch. The rail adapter will allow you to connect the hitch to your truck using the puck system.

Note: if your 5th wheel trailer has a sidewinder pin box you will not be able to use a sliding 5th wheel hitch and will need to get a sidewinder wedge kit to prevent the king pin from pivoting in the jaws of your hitch. Wedge kits are hitch specific so if you need help finding the correct wedge I'll just need to know what model hitch you have.
