While the Thule Motion XT L Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft # TH629706 provides a lot of coverage from rain and other elements, it is not rated as water-tight. Where the top and bottom halves meet, the edges are rolled a full 180 degrees. Water would have to come straight up from the bottom and turn 180 degrees to get inside. If you are concerned about water infiltration, we always recommend our neighbors in rainy areas throw their luggage or cargo in a plastic bag so if any moisture does get in, the cargo will not soak it up. We've had customers come back and say that this box did a great job in heavy rain and winds so I can confidently say that this will keep your cargo dry. However, the Motion XT L will not be able to keep out water if fully submerged.

In order to mount your Motion XT L to your 2020 Subaru Forester, you will need a crossbars system. If you have a factory rack, the Motion XT L will fit your crossbars. On all crossbar systems, you will be able to open your rear hatch with the cargo carrier mounted. If you have a naked roof on your Forester, I recommend the following roof rack system:

- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 50" Long # Y00425
- SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR
- Landing Pad 22 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers # Y00248
- (Optional for extra security) Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204

If your vehicle has raised factory rails, I recommend the following parts:

- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 50" Long # Y00425
- TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails # Y33TR
- (Optional for extra security) Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204

With both of these systems, you will be able to transport the Thule Motion XT L with cargo on your 2020 Subaru Forester.
