Recommended Suspension Upgrade Parts for 2018 Coachmen Freedom Express Travel Trailer

Question:

I need some assistance with new attachment parts for my trailer suspension. I currently have stock dry bolts on a tandem axle trailer. Looking to upgrade to wet bolts, brass bushings, and thicker shackles. I have lippert components right now. What kit would be best to go with? There are so many options it’s kind of overwhelming. Pictures attached of an almost catastrophic fail.

In order to find the correct replacement parts you will need to measure center hole to center hole on your current shackles. You will also need to measure the inner and outer diameter of your bushings.

The Lippert AP Kit - Tandem Axle Road Armor Wet Bolts and Shackles # LC52SV is designed to work with Road Armor equalizers like the # LC696740. I can't exactly tell from the pictures but I do not think you have these.

The idea would be to match up what you currently have with an upgrade kit like the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR. This kit has 2-1/4" shackle straps with a bolt hole diameter of 9/16". The bushing OD is 11/16" and the ID is 9/16" with a length of 1-3/4". It has 3-3/8" and 2-7/8" long wet bolts as well.

From your picture it looks like your hanger is what failed. In order to replace a hanger you will also need some measurements. The width always equals 1-3/4" for hangers so you will need to measure the height, which is the distance from the center of the bolt hole to the top of the hanger. You will also need to measure the bolt hole diameter.

I have attached a link for the upgrade kits that you can filter down based on your measurements as well as a link to our leaf spring hangers. If you would prefer, you could let me know your measurements and I will help you find the best fit. I have also attached a helpful article on double-eye suspension systems that outlines each part and how to measure and find a replacement for your reference.
