Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System Adjustments To Reduce Sway and Improve Ride Quality
Question:
Can additional adjustments be made moving tongue brackets in mounting inches closer to ball receiver , thus inches up the spring-bars. Some sway is still noticeable, and especially forward rocking pitch on uneven road surfaces. Does even the angle of the ball washers install affect notable positive differences to better balanced towing? Again, this is a newly installed Equalizer hitch 800 - 1000 bar tongue weight - towing a 7000 lb camping trailer. Looking for that ‘magic’ placement for a more stable towing experience… thx

The sway brackets for the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET should be between 27-32" from the center of the coupler ball to the center of the sway bracket. The further up the sway bracket is the less the trunnion bar will be able to flex and generally means a rougher ride. At 32" is where is recommended for the most comfortable ride and less stress on all the components.
You can adjust the pitch of the hitch head to improve the level of the weight distribution and sway for your tow vehicle. The more downward pitch that there is on the hitch head the more weight is put onto the trunnion bars which give more sway resistance as well as a more level ride. Be sure to not overload your trunnion bars as this can damage your hitch and provide poor traction and ride when towing.
I have included a link to the digital copy of the installation instructions which is the best source for all the information needed to properly dial in your hitch system.
If you still experience sway you may need to check the loading of your camper. If there is not sufficient tongue weight (10-15% of the trailer weight), the trailer will tend to want to sway and no sway control will be able to correct that.
