Troubleshooting Lippert Landing Gear Motor 1-065-041012-01 Blowing Fuse Under Load

Question:

My landing gear motor keeps blowing fuses when putting a load on it. I’m thinking I need a larger motor or weight limit motor. I have a model: 1-065-041012-01. I was told the LC141893 is it’s replacement. What would you recommend?

I reached out to my contact at Lippert and since your landing gear motor is blowing a fuse as soon as it sees load he mentioned the issue is more than likely that the motor is not getting the correct voltage, with the less common cause being the landing gear is underrated for your trailer.

I recommend using a multimeter like # PT89ZR to test the voltage at the motor while the motor is operating. You will need to make sure you are running solely off battery power and are not getting power from shore power, solar panels, or any other additional power source. If you are seeing less than 11-12 volts while the motor is operating under these conditions you have a battery issue causing the motor to blow a fuse.

If you are getting 12+ volts then the issue is likely the motor. Since your current motor is the 1-065-041012-01 the # LC141893 which has a 5000lb rating is the exact replacement, or you can upgrade to the # LC196308 which is rated for 6500lbs and will be an exact replacement. This motor does run quite a bit slower due to it having a lower RPM range, but it will be stronger like you were wanting.

I am having the same problem with my landing gear and the same lift motor. I used my multimeter while operating the motor and showed 13v on the Negative side. I’m not exactly savvy with electric motors but that indicates it is defective, correct?
