Safety Concerns On The Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Question:

I want to purchase Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 21,000 lbs Item # DM8550043 product however have to address a serious safety issue. In the attached foto there seems to be an oversight on fabrication, only a small weld bottom of the pivot pin tube rather than all the way around. Is this just a prototype foto or are the production units like this? As a professional welder and mechanical engineer this seems very odd. Please clarify.

The image you are referring to on the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw # DM8550043 is where the casting bolt gets bolted on and is intentionally designed that way. Demco has been in business for 57 years and have continually produced quality products through their extensive testing.
