While the Gorilla Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist # GL1 is a sturdy product that reduces the lift force needed to close the gate as well as slows the gates opening, I must recommend that you always have a latch or lock on your trailer. The Gorilla Lift by itself is not enough to keep the gate to your trailer closed while traveling.
If you need a tailgate latch for your trailer, I recommend the Redline Bolt-On Stainless Steel Spring Latch # SL716SS. It features a stainless steel spring and pin with an aluminum base. I have provided a link to a video review of this product.
