The reason the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the 24x60 Reese Cargo Carrier # 63153 is so long (12-3/4") is to maximize bumper clearance for as many vehicles as possible. There are vehicles that have hitches which install a good distance away from the bumper, and the long clearance allows the carrier to be used with those vehicles.

That said, if you don't like that length, there are other cargo carriers with shorter lengths from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier:

- 11-1/4" to Closest Part of Carrier: 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18152

- 9-1/2" to Closest Part of Carrier: 17x50 Swagman Expanse Cargo Carrier # S68FR

- 8" to Closest Part of Carrier: 23x59 Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier # CC-100
