5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2008 Toyota Tundra with a 6-1/2 ft Bed

Question:

I know that you recommend the cheaper 16k hitch,, but will this better hitch be compatible with my 2008 Toyota Tundra 6.5foot truck bed? I noticed that the height adjustment is 17.5 - 21.5 vs. 13-17 and I didnt want my fifth wheel to be too out of level when towing. Thanks for any advice you may offer.

The weight capacity of a fifth wheel hitch has no impact on the fit for your 2008 Toyota Tundra. The fit issues that you will need to consider when selecting a fifth wheel hitch is the installation kit and if the hitch is a sliding fifth wheel hitch or a fixed fifth wheel hitch.

We offer universal and custom installation kits for your Tundra. I have attached a link to all of them for you to check out.

Since your truck has a 6-1/2 ft bed, we strongly recommend using a sliding fifth wheel hitch. Trucks with beds shorter than 8 ft will not allow for 90 degree turns without hitting the cab of the truck with the trailer. A sliding fifth wheel hitch will allow you to slide the hitch about 10 inches back to create additional turning clearance when towing.

If you need a hitch with a taller adjustment height, I recommend looking at the Husky Silver Series fifth wheel hitches. For a 16K hitch, you will want part # HT31326-32042 and for a 26K hitch, you can use part # HT31318-32042. These hitches offer a height adjustment from 15-3/4 inches to 19-1/4 inches. The installation kit that you will want is the Husky Custom Installation Kit, # HT31410-686.

If you had a specific fifth wheel hitch in mind, let me know what hitch you are looking at and I can recommend the appropriate installation kit for that hitch.
