New Hubs And Drums For 2008 Metalcraft Trailer
Question:
I am in the process of changing a boat trailer to electric brakes from hydraulic surge brakes. The current hubs/drums have very few miles, have been well maintained, and are in very good shape. The issue is that the inner surface of the drum has circular ridges, small but visible and palpable. Aside from more magnet wear and decreased magnet gripping, do I need drums made specifically for electric brakes with a smoother inner surface? I know it would be preferable to change both, but I am a bit of a budget at the time. Also, the bearings do not have part numbers printed on them, how can I find the right bearings, and do all 10inch drums take 2 1/4inch brakes? Ive attached all the information/stickers on my 2008 Metalcraft trailer that I have.

Some drums can be used with hydraulic or electric brakes, some can not. You would want to check with the drum manufacturer unless it says it somewhere on the drum. Not all 10" drums take 2 1/14" brakes, however it is one of the more common configurations.
Since your bearings do not have any numbers on them, you'll have to measure your spindle (C,D) shown in the image with a set of calipers # PTW80157.
Form here you should have the dimensions needed to pick out the correct bearings for your hubs.
A product like the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-478-479 would work for your current setup. I've included a video to help you through your conversion process.
