Will Powered Taillight Converter Harness Draw Power When Vehicle is Shut Off
Question:
Since the C56190KIT is connected directly between the battery and ground without any provision for switching it off when the vehicle is not running, does it continue to draw current when the vehicle is shut down? If so, I would expect that it would drain the battery… if used only occasionally would it be worthwhile to install a switch to limit use only when pulling a trailer? I would like to install a hitch on my 2017 x5 with backup assist. Thank you for your help. Regards

Although the Curt trailer wiring harness which we sell as # C56190KIT is connected directly to the battery to provide a reliable secure power connection for the trailer taillights, it won't pull any power from the battery unless the taillights are actually on.
If it would make you feel better, you could install a battery isolation solenoid like part # PK5231201 inline on the circuit ran to the battery so the feed shuts down when the ignition is off, but it's honestly not necessary.
The Draw-Tite Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # 75600 would be a great choice for a hitch. I'll link you to an install video for the hitch that you might find helpful.
