Redarc Liberty Brake Controller Wiring and 7-Way Wiring For a 2016 GMC Canyon
Question:
Will the universal wiring harness be needed for the 2016 GMC Canyon?

You will need the Universal Wiring Harness # RED69FR to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR into your 2016 GMC Canyon. This will allow you to splice into the wiring that is on your Canyon as there is not a plug and play style connector and the wires are just terminated under the lower side panel fascia on your Canyon.
I have included a video of an installation of a different brake controller on 2017 Chevrolet Colorado but the wiring will be similar. Once you have removed the lower side panel on your Canyon and identified the terminated wires you will want to be sure to test their functions with a Test Light # PTW2993 to ensure they are functioning correctly.
The large diameter red wire should be your constant power that will connect to the black wire of the brake controller harness. The black wire is the ground wire that will attach to the white wire on the controller harness. The blue wire will connect to the blue wire of the harness and the white wire should be the brake signal wire from the brake pedal that will connect to the red wire of the brake controller harness.
If you do not have a 7-way on your Canyon already the Hopkins Multi-Tow 7-Way Blade and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141144 will be the connector you to wire in a 7-way trailer connection. This will also splice into your factory wiring on the rear of your Colorado.
