Heavy Duty Trailer Hitch Fit for 1989 Chevy K1500 Pickup

Question:

I bought a Curt 15511 last year and could not get it to mount on my 1989 Chevy k1500 short and narrow bed 4wd stepside pickup. Id like advice on the correct direct fit bolt-on HD hitch for my truck. Also ... it would be VERY helpful if somewhere in the hitch descriptions there were schematics with DIMENSIONS. Thanks for any help.

We list the Curt # C15511 you'd previously purchased as a fit for the cab/chassis truck but not the pickup. The cab/chassis models have a narrower frame member spread, which is why it didn't fit your stepside K1500.

I'd recommend the Curt Class V hitch you'd looked at, part # C15325 which is a direct fit unless your truck has a crew cab or a roll-pan bumper. The # C15325 is a bolt-on hitch that would install on your truck without needing to drill any holes. Just to be sure, I checked out Curt's website and confirmed the fit for you.

The hitch Maximum gross trailer weight: 16,000 lbs
Maximum GTW when used with weight distribution: 17,000 lbs
Maximum tongue weight: 2,400 lbs
Maximum TW when used with weight distribution: 2,400 lbs

The hitch will be able to provide all the capacity you'll need. In fact, the capacity of the hitch is greater than that of the truck.

I've also linked to the installation instructions which specify that the hitch is a fit for 1988-2000 Chevy C/K long and short bed pickups.

It would be super helpful if we could list the full dimensions of the hitch, but many of the hitch manufacturers consider that to be proprietary information that they'd rather we not list.
