How To Measure For Replacement Leaf Springs When Current Springs Are Flat

Question:

So we jacked up the 5th wheel and got the tire completely off the ground. One leaf measured 25 1/2" eye to eye and another measured 25 3/4" eye to eye. Which product do you recommend we order?

I would be happy to help!

When measuring for new leaf springs you need to either take them off of the trailer, or jack up the side of the trailer so that the axle is not carrying any weight.

Based on the pictures of the leaf springs on your 2017 Grand Design Momentum 398M with Triple 7000lb axles they do look a bit flat, but when weight is not on them they should get a curve back in them.

If you can tell me how long from center of spring eye to center of spring eye the springs are, I would be happy to recommend the correct replacements for you.

Thanks for the measurement! For your trailer I recommend the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # SP-198275 which will be a bit shorter at 24-7/8" long, but that will be just about right based on how flat your current springs are. I included a video of the # SP-198275 for you to take a look at.
