Troubleshooting Overload Warning on Prodigy P3 Brake Controller on 2002 GMC Yukon XL 2500
Question:
When I depress the brake pedal on my 2002 GMC Yukon XL 2500 SLT, I get an Overload Warning on the display. Sometimes I get the warning as soon as the brakes are applied, but, other times, the brakes show they are working and the display shows proportional braking for a few seconds and then the warning displays. I have the wiring harness for this vehicle to the brake controller. Im pretty sure the trailer brakes are fine, as the trailer has been towed by several other vehicles with no problems and the brakes operated properly. Any ideas on what could be going wrong? Thanks in advance

According the the manual, the overload warning appears when the P3 # 90195 detects an excessive current overload condition during operation. The first thing I would do is check the 7-way connection on your 2002 GMC Yukon XL and trailer for any corrosion and clean it out. You may also want to apply dielectric grease like # 11755 for added protection once this is done.
If you are still getting the warning you should check all of your ground connections for the trailer brakes. Make sure they are securely connected to a clean, bare-metal surface. You will also want to check your wiring for damage, you are looking for any spots that have been nicked, pinched or rubbed and have copper wire showing through the jacketing.
I have attached a helpful article on brake controller troubleshooting which has which steps to follow when your brake controller detects an overload condition.
