2019 Jeep Wrangler JL Roof Rack Solution

Question:

Hello, I have a 2 door JL and I am looking for a solution to mount two kayaks and possibly a roof top tent in the future. Ideally I do not want to utilize the freedom panels as I dont think they can safely handle the weight. Do you think I can mount two or three of the exposed racksfoot bars on just the back portion of the hardtop? Will the regular bars or click-in be better suited? Will a Thule type kayak carrier work with either bar? Thank you in advance!

My recommended rack installs in the rain gutters just like the Exposed Racks Roof Rack for Jeep JL, JLU, and Gladiator Hardtop - Square Bars - Steel - Black, part # ER77FR. It is a Yakima roof rack.

The roof rack for your 2019 Jeep Wrangler consists of the following:

Round 66" CrossBars for Yakima Roof Rack System (QTY 2), part # Y00410,
Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers (QTY 4). part # Y00101, and the
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4), part # Y07204.

Both roof racks have a weight limit of 165 lbs and they are compatible with roof rack accessories that clamp the crossbar. Your Thule kayak carrier will work with each of these racks. Both racks are compatible with rooftop tents. The Yakima rack can be used with their Same Key System Lock Cores to secure the rack to your vehicle. The Yakima rack has bars that extend beyond the tower. If you get longer bars, provided they do not extend past your side mirrors, you can carry more items on the roof of your vehicle, which makes the rack more flexible.

If you need a kayak carrier I would recommend a j-style kayak carriers. They do not focus all of the weight on the hull of the boat. The etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount, part # e98878, would be my choice. It can mount directly to your crossbars. It has padded arms and base to protect your boat. It comes with two cam straps and a set of bow and stern tie-downs.
