Solution For Carrying 2 Regular Bikes And 1 Electric Bike On 44 Foot Toy Hauler 5th Wheel

Question:

Hi I have a 44 foot toy hauler and I’d like to add a receiver for a bike rack that can carry 1 ebike, 1 20” bmx bike and 1 26” bmx bike for total of 3 bikes. Is there a bike rack that’s recommended that works well on vehicles with low clearance? Or a riser?

There are only a few bike racks that are built strong enough to be compatible with 5th wheel trailers / toy haulers, so your options are limited. That said, the only 3-bike carrier that will work is the Swagman Original - 3 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches # S64152-2; this also comes in a 4-bike version # S64400. This bike rack is not suitable for electric bikes as the weight capacity is only 35lbs per bike and your E-bike probably weighs more than that even when the battery pack is removed. If so then your only other option is to mount 2 bikes on your 5th wheel hitch and then put the third bike somewhere on your tow vehicle. You could look into the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # S94FR which has a weight capacity of 70lbs per bike so you could put two bikes on this (ebike and one other bike), then your third bike on the roof or front of tow vehicle. Also, if ground clearance is an issue then you can add Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 8" Drop/Rise # RM-077-8 to help out.

For the third bike you can mount it on the front of your tow vehicle via front-mount trailer hitch receiver or onto your vehicle's roof. For a roof carrier you can possibly use Inno Tire Hold II Roof Bike Rack - Wheel Mount Aluminum # INA389 which has a weight capacity of 50lbs; you will also need a roof rack for this. For a bike rack to mount to a front receiver, I would look at the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # RKY87RR which has a capacity of 60lbs.
